(8.31.07) Let price signals flow to bills
RALEIGH — Current allocation mechanisms during a time of water shortage -- watering restrictions, frequent exhortations by public officials to conserve -- are not working. A market-based solution would help to solve the problem. It's a good, but not novel, idea.

(8.30.07) Infrastructure matters
RALEIGH — For decades now, the left and the right have chosen to scrimp on infrastructure. For the left, the anti-infrastructure backlash started with the environmental movement. For the right, infrastructure spending was seen as pork projects, and funding was soon cut.

(8.28.07) It's the law, isn't it?
CHARLOTTE — Should individual citizens have to pay twice to get the courts to enforce North Carolina's laws? Of course not. Once should be enough to bring about compliance with state law -- especially the state's admirable open government statutes.

(8.27.07) Let business breathe
JACKSONVILLE — There is a fine line between governing because it is needed and governing because it's possible. That line is often crossed with building codes. Though they may be important, often times building codes help the few and harm the many.
