GREENSBORO — City Councilman Mike Barber is gamely chipping away at the traditional wall between city and county government. He is suggesting that local leaders pursue combining the city and county planning departments into a single unit.

(3.17.08) Spreading the gold
RALEIGH — When NC landed its share of the 1998 national tobacco settlement, the Golden LEAF Foundation was established to spread the money around. To improve the process, the foundation will look towards county-requested projects and infrastructure improvements.
