Opinions for week ending: Sunday, November 09 2008(11.07.08) Haywood opens the doors for entrepreneurs WAYNESVILLE-Economic development officials everywhere know that creating a fertile environment for entrepreneurs is critical for a healthy business climate. In Haywood County, however, there has been a concerted effort over the past several years to stoke this entrepreneurial flame, and those efforts culminated last week when it became the first county in the region, the state and the nation to earn the Certified Entrepreneurial Community designation.
(11.07.08) A bad idea is abandoned WILMINGTON-While many politicians were busy rounding up votes in the days leading up to Tuesday's election, local elected officials who serve on the Transportation Advisory Committee took an important vote of their own: They decided, at long last, to abandon the loopy idea of a traffic loop to ease gridlock at one of Wilmington's busiest intersections.
(11.07.08) Annexation Opponents Are Telling Untruths PINEHURST-The village of Pinehurst is concerned about misinformation that has been promulgated from several sources about the upcoming annexation of Pinewild. Much of this misinformation appears to have originated with the leaders of StTOP (Stop the Taking of Pinewild). Some StTOP supporters have used letters to The Pilot to spread this misinformation. This response is not meant to disparage the letter writers, as apparently they are doing nothing more than repeating incorrect information supplied to them by the leaders of StTOP.
